Flipboard uses QR Code for easy web sign-in
Flipboard – one of the most popular content curation and reading app just launched a nifty new feature. Flipboard uses QR Code to allow you to sign-in to Flipboard on the web using your smart phone.
Sign in with a QR code
This is useful for people who are logged into Flipboard on a mobile device and would like to quickly sign-in to Flipboard on the Web. It’s also a neat feature for someone who is trying to login using Twitter and Facebook while at work as access to social networks is blocked at work. Now they will be able to login to Flipboard using QR code.
How it works
On Flipboard.com, toward the bottom of your screen, you’ll see: “Scan a QR code for quick sign in.”
Click that, then follow the steps and scan the code with a QR reader on your mobile device. Once you scan the code, you’ll be logged into your account on Flipboard.com.
Note: You will have to install a QR Scanner app if you don’t already have it. Flipboard will try to launch “Barcode Scanner” onAndroid but you can use any other scanner if you like. You can scan the code by going to your Flipboard settings and tapping “Authorize Web Login”.
I think other companies like News360 and Feedly should look into QR code implementation because it makes perfect sense. In a way out is two-step authentication. Whatsapp for Web is another site I know that uses this feature.
Over to you
What do you think about this new feature? Which other sites would you like to see a similar implementation?
